Sorry followers....

I really stink at this huh? I haven't posted in months. We are all doing EXCELLENT on the Dr. Oz plan! I hit the 70+ lb. mark this past weekend! In the past few months I have come to realize that this is my new way of life and I would be absolutely fine with eating this way for good. Which is exactly what I'm going to do! After I hit my goal (42.8 lbs to go!) will I have birthday cake on my birthday? Yes, of course. Will I have birthday cake on every person I knows birthday? Absolutely not. Do you know how many birthday cakes I've been around in the past 6 months? A LOT! And how many have I tasted? ZERO! I still to this day have not cheated ONCE this entire time. I don't know if anyone realizes what a big accomplishment that is for me. I have turned into a determined, competitive, healthy person and I'm loving it. So, I leave you with a quote... and hopefully I will get back to posting on here!

"Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!" (It's supposed to say "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" but I think healthy feels even better than skinny. It's not about the way you look, it's about the way you feel regarding your health. Although, going down about 8 sizes feels good too!)

A few things about the show!

Ok, so the show finally aired and I can't believe how many of our fabulous friends watched! I have a lot to say about the show so here it goes....

1. Yes, my Gram (Matty) is hilarious. That is the first thing everyone has said when they watched they show. "You're grandmother is so funny!". She doesn't even have to think about it, this stuff just comes right out and it's instantly hilarious. It's a gift! So, all of you should come over for dinner on a Sunday, I'll be charging $5 at the door for her comedy show!

2. The camera adds 10 lbs. Totally. Yes, obviously we weigh what the Truth Tube said... but the people I've talked to who actually know me in real life have said "you looked bigger on TV". So, that's nice... I think? Doesn't matter anyway, we've all lost a lot of weight since then!

3. When we taped the show, Dr. Oz got me to eat fish. Now, anyone who really knows me knows how picky I am and that I DO NOT try new foods, especially fish! Well, Kate (the nutritionist) made some sort of fish called Italian Barramundi and Dr. Oz said "Now Nicole, I know you don't eat seafood... but we want you to try this." So, here I am, with two cameras on me, and an audience full of people watching. I just started laughing. But I was thinking "Are you freaken serious right now?". That is like the equivalent of going on Fear Factor and eating worms to me. (Go ahead, call me a drama queen!) Well, I thought I was going to get away with not trying... but then my own MOTHER handed me a fork! Thanks Mom for lookin' out! So, I tried a tiny piece. And Dr. Oz said "How was it?". Now what was I going to say? "Awful, give me something to drink before I throw up?" No. I said "Mmm... kind of tastes like chicken." The flavor was a little chickeny but the texture was NOT! Oh it was awful. I'm sure that is a great tasting fish and the way it was made was probably great too, but I do not like fish. End of story! Afterwards, the first thing my cousin/BFF Alissa said to me was "You just ate fish on TV... I can't believe you did it. I was thinking 'She's not going to eat that, there's no way in hell... she won't eat it... no way. She doesn't eat fish' and then you ate it!" I said "Yea, I was thinking pretty much the same thing!". So, after all that... they didn't even air it! I didn't even have to try it after all! I'm sad they didn't air it though, it was pretty funny for anyone who wasn't ME. Gram definitely stole with the show with all the funny stuff.

4. When I was going to school, I would have to walk up this hill to get to class. I have asthma and I'm overweight so by the time I got to the top of that hill, I felt like I was going to pass out. I do not have to stop because I'm out of breath from walking up 10 stairs... just to let you know. haha. But, I did have problems getting out of breath from walking. Now, I can do 4 miles on the treadmill and feel perfectly fine... and it's only been 6 weeks. :o) Improvement!

5. The girl who did my hair (I can't remember her name right now!) did an awesome job. I believe she used to work on Guiding Light before it went off the air. I've been doing it like that sometimes, it's really easy. She was really sweet. The guy who did my makeup also did a great job! He was really funny. I don't know his name either... but I liked him. But don't worry, I definitely look JUST like that ALL the time. :o)

6. The sweater and pants I wore on the show is already too big on me, oh shucks.

7. My cholesterol used to be a lot worse than that a few years ago. Like twice as bad. I'm sure if I had it tested right now it would be way better. When he said my cholesterol, I thought it was actually good since it was so much worse before... boy was I wrong! I got the "gasp" from the audience. Geez.

8. My "real age" was 34. I'm only 27. So yes, 34 is not a good real age at all. But, I was really nervous about that part because my Wii Fit says I should be about 62! I was thankful the Real Age is more accurate and a lot less embarrassing. If you want to find out your Real Age you can find out here! http://www.realage.com/ This was developed by Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen (Dr. Mike!). We email Dr. Mike everyday... he's known as "The Enforcer". If I don't do 10,000 steps, I'm gonna hear about it from Dr. Mike! But, I do my 10,000 steps every single day because I like making my Dr. Mike happy! And because, it really does help to walk that much every day. Everyone should do it... go out and buy a pedometer!

9. Yes, I'm short. I'm 5'2". My mom is about 5'11", my Gram is probably 5'9"- 5'10". My Dad is 6'2". My brother is 5'9"... 4 of my cousins are over 5'7". And here I am... 5'2". Not quite fair if you ask me.

10. We are doing a follow-up show, just not sure when yet. I think we will probably go back twice? One as an update and maybe the final one when we reach our goals. That's going to be a while though. But, I'm not positive when or how many times. I'll keep you all posted of course!

Ok, well I think that's it! If my Mom or Gram have anything else to add, I'll post another blog for it. We've received so many comments, emails, phone calls and text messages from so many wonderful, supportive friends! We love you all. THANK YOU!

We have an air date!!

That's right, we have an air date! Today we heard from the show and they told us our segment will be airing Monday, January 18th! To check your local listings go to www.doctoroz.com and click Local Listings at the top of the page. Here on Long Island, it airs at 3 pm on FOX. It will also air the following day at 11 am on FOX.

Tomorrow I meet with my trainer, Matt, for the first time. I've been going to the gym or using the treadmill at home everyday but I haven't done any strength training yet. Should be interesting! I hope I'm not in too much pain when I'm done! :o)

We've been on the plan for 4 weeks now. We all weighed in today and we are still doing great! But, I'm not giving away numbers. :o) I'm known to cheat on diets... you know, if you lose weight, reward yourself with a cheat day (or weekend...). Well, I haven't done that AT ALL. And I don't plan on it! I want to be able to say when I'm done "I didn't cheat ONCE!". I think all three of us are much more motivated this time around. We are all determined to succeed! We've still got a long way to go of course!

I can't believe the show is airing next Monday! I'm not nervous at all, but I think my Mom is. What's there to be nervous about? The hard part is over, we filmed it! :o) I hope you all watch! Thanks for all the support!

Exercising... fun? Not really.

First of all, sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I've been busy trying to find a job... which isn't working out so well.

Anyway... the diet is still going well! But the three of us are wondering... when does that I-love-going-to-the-gym-because-its-such-a-rush feeling kick in? Because I don't see that happening anytime soon. We have to walk 10,000 steps a day (4 miles... every single day). It's impossible to do that without going to the gym and using the treadmill for AT LEAST an hour. And that only gets in about 7,000 steps. Do normal gym-goers go to the gym 7 days a week? I know, we sound like we're just complaining... but it's exhausting! Does anyone have tips on how to start liking the gym? Does anyone actually like the gym? haha. I know there are people out there that feel exhilarated after going. Not us! We are TIRED! haha. On a happy note though, it's working! We are all losing weight.

Also, has anyone bought the Reebok Easytone sneakers? I want a pair but they seem to be sold out everywhere! I'm curious if they are as great as they look. :o) I'm having issues with my Nikes, they aren't as comfortable as usual. What sneakers do you use to work out?

We survived Christmas!

Well, it's a miracle. We survived the holidays! We survived Christmas Eve/Christmas without rice balls, white pasta, canolis, napoleons, SUGAR! I could go on forever. Gram made a delicious lasagna with whole wheat lasagna sheets, low fat ricotta and mozzarella, turkey meatballs and turkey sausage. You could barely tell the difference, it was great! We each had ONE (yes, one!) serving and felt satisfied. For dessert, we had low fat vanilla frozen yogurt and berries. It wasn't even close to being as delicious as all the Italian pastries we are used to, but it satisfied my sweet tooth and I really enjoyed it.

This week, Mom and I are in Texas visiting our family. We are doing really good with making healthy choices while we are here. Even though I would love to have a Jack in the Box Taco while I'm here, I am NOT going to do it! We also are getting in a ton of walking. Luckily, we have access to a treadmill while we are here and that really helps. I'm having so much fun, I'm definitely not going to want to go home!

I'm not doing so great with the trying vegetables thing. I can tolerate mushrooms still... but that's about it. I tried zucchini and spaghetti squash... umm no thanks. Hopefully I'm able to find more healthy choices I actually enjoy because I know eventually I will get sick of salads with cucumbers and chicken!

At Target we bought a yummy snack... it has walnuts, craisins and dark chocolate covered soynuts. I LOVE walnuts! Who knew?! They are really good. And the dark chocolate covered soynuts are awesome. Next, I'm going to try soynuts not covered in chocolate.... I hope I like them too. I'm kind of doubting that though! lol

Mom, Gram and I weighed in yesterday and are still doing great... but I'm not giving away numbers! We still don't have an airdate for the show but hopefully we get one soon. Keep you all posted!
